Temporary housingReviewed 15 Jul 2026

Choose a home you can verify, work from, and leave cleanly.

The right stay type depends on duration, cash timing, privacy, support, cancellation, local rules, and how much setup you can absorb.

The room changes the entire stay.

A beautiful listing can hide a weak workday, expensive fees, a poor neighborhood fit, or no clean exit. Compare the ordinary experience before the décor.

01Best for residential routines

Furnished apartment

Verify lease authority, utilities, exact-unit internet, guest rules, repairs, deposit return, and extension terms.

02Best for a low-friction landing

Extended-stay hotel

Usually simpler for receipts, cleaning, front-desk support, and changing dates, but often less residential and more expensive.

03Best for a soft landing with a kitchen

Aparthotel

Confirm kitchen equipment, laundry, workspace, local taxes or fees, cleaning schedule, and whether rates change after the first month.

04Best for built-in contact

Coliving

Ask about bedroom privacy, call space, quiet hours, guest rules, community expectations, refunds, and whether the social format actually suits you.

05Best for employer-funded projects

Corporate housing

Useful for invoicing and support; compare cancellation, furnishing quality, commute, taxes, and the premium over direct housing.

06Best for living in an established home

Sublet

Verify permission to sublet, the contracting party, building rules, deposit, mail, personal belongings, and the exact move-out condition.

07Best for flexible travelers

House-sitting

Treat dates, care duties, insurance, backup care, work space, pets, utilities, and early termination as operational commitments.

08Best for lower-setup smaller-city stays

Guesthouse

Confirm private workspace, noise, long-stay rates, laundry, visitors, payment records, and whether staff can support maintenance issues.

Before money moves

Fraud prevention is a sequence, not a feeling.

  1. Verify the person. Match identity to ownership, management authority, or permission to sublet.
  2. Verify the place. Confirm the address, exact unit, current condition, and live access.
  3. Verify the contract. Read money, duties, cancellation, extension, guests, repairs, and departure.
  4. Verify the payment. The recipient, currency, account, receipt, and agreement must align.
  5. Preserve an exit. Keep a fallback and stop when reasonable questions create urgency.
PHOTOGRAPH AT CHECK-IN

Every wall, floor, ceiling, window, appliance, meter, key, lock, furnishing, stain, crack, and missing item. Send a timestamped condition report immediately.

TEST BEFORE UNPACKING

Locks, smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms, hot water, heating or cooling, outlets, Wi-Fi, mobile backup, desk, noise, and emergency contacts.
